About Our Family
at Icelandic Horse Acres

   Icelandic Horse Acres is owned and operated by the Hood family in the Spokane Valley of beautiful Washington state!   We are a very unusual family because there are so many of us.  We have 13 in our busy, fun loving family here at Icelandic Horse Acres.   All 13 members of the family share a love of the Icelandic Horse.

     Now we'll introduce you to the family at Icelandic Horse Acres.

Dr. James Gerard Hood, DDS, MA is a family dentist father of this unusual family.  His work with the Icelandic Horse includes selecting, breeding, and raising quality horses.  He also is studying Icelandic Horse genetics and equine dentistry.  He loves children of all ages and  also has a background in high school science and math . He loves working with children.

Karen Jean Matsko Hood, M.A>a.k.a. "Mom" is also involved with the selection, breeding, and raising Icelandic Horses.  She is dedicated to promoting the Icelandic Horse and uses her background as a certified high school science teacher to teach and promote the Icelandic Horse to people of all ages and levels.  She  recently completed her Masters Degree and is currently working on her Ph.D..

Brianne Kristina Hood  is our oldest daughter.   She is a professional trainer and rider.  She is currently attending Gonzaga University and still loves the  Icelandic breed.

Marissa Kimberly Hood is twenty years old.  She has professionally trained and competed in Iceland, Canada, and the U.S.  Marissa also gives riding lessons to all levels of riders.

Janelle Karina Hood is eighteen years old.  She is a professional trainer, rider, and competitor on an international level.  Janelle also gives riding lessons to all levels of riders from children to adults.

Mikayla Karlene Hood is sixteen years old.  She enjoys riding and competing.  she loves the Icelandic Horse and her favorite horse is Gola, a lovely blue dun mare.

Kyler James Hood is fourteen years old.  He rides and has competed in Canada and the U.S. He enjoys the Icelandic Horse as well as Iceland where he has visited.  Kyler is patient, kind and has learned to lunge the horses.

Kelsey Katrina Hood is eleven years old.  She is a beginning rider and loves the Icelandic Horse.  She also loves to draw and soon we will have some of her drawings posted on the Kids pages.

Corbin Joel Hood is eight years old.  He is just beginning to be involved with horses, by being led around on them.  He also loves to watch the young horses run through the pasture.

Caleb Jerome Hood is seven years old.  He, like Corby is beginning his involvement with the Icelandic Horse.  He also very much likes Gola.   He likes to peer through the fence and help "feed".

Devontay Joshua is five years old and is in Kindergarten.

We continue to welcome foster children into our home.

We also enjoy the company and work of our two nephews living with our family.

Monte Steven Moss also helps with the daily care of the horses and farm management, by helping with vaccinations.  He has also has setup various computer programs for our website and website marketing.  He has helped us with overall computer set-up also.

Derek John Moss is twenty one years old.  He has ridden and competed in the U.S. and in Canada and is an intermediate rider.  He is involved with the daily care and feeding of the horses.  He now spends a lot of his time working on writing, music, and designing webpages.

Elska, Eva and Odinn are our Icelandic sheepdog family pets.  They are great Icelandic Sheepdogs and they love to round up our Icelandic horses.

Icelandic Horses We have about 30 to 50 horses at anytime.   Our entire family works with these wonderful horses!  Call and come out and visit us!
